About Tyler

Professional Instruction with 30+ Years of Playing Experience

I'm a guitarist and bassist with three decades of playing experience. I currently perform in a local band and bring that active musicianship directly into every lesson.

My teaching philosophy is simple: Students who are having fun and making real progress stay engaged. That's why I teach using tablature and chords, so your child is playing the songs they love from the very first lesson, making music right away.

My Teaching Philosophy

  • I've spent 30 years developing my skills as a guitarist and bassist. Through years of performing, learning from experienced musicians, and teaching, I've developed a clear philosophy about how people learn music best.

My approach is rooted in a simple principle: students who are engaged stay committed, practice regularly, and develop real skills.

  • My teaching method centers on one core idea: students learn best by playing the songs they love from the very first lesson.

Rather than spending months on foundational exercises and theory, I introduce students immediately to actual music. This creates immediate engagement, visible progress, and genuine motivation to practice.

    How It Works

Week 1: Students select a song they're excited about. I teach them the chord shapes and tablature they need. By the end of that first lesson, they're playing it.

Week 2-3: They refine their playing, learn additional chords, and build confidence through repeated, successful practice.

Week 4+: They're playing multiple songs with increasing skill and confidence.

This progression builds genuine musicianship through direct experience with the instrument.

  • I teach using tablature and chord-based instruction, a visual and practical approach that allows students to play immediately.

    What This Means

Tablature: A visual system where numbers represent frets on the instrument. Students see exactly where to play, without needing to read traditional music notation.

Chords: Finger patterns that create harmonic sounds, taught through demonstration and practice.

Result: Students develop practical playing skills quickly, building confidence and competence with every lesson and practice.

  • Immediate Success: Students experience the satisfaction of playing music in their first week. This creates positive reinforcement and genuine excitement about learning.

Visible Progress: Week-to-week improvement in the specific songs they're learning is concrete and measurable. Parents and students alike can hear the difference.

Intrinsic Motivation: When students care about the music they're learning, they practice willingly. This is far more effective than external pressure or requirements.

Practical Skills Development: By week four, students can play complete songs. They're developing real musicianship, not abstract knowledge.

Long-Term Engagement: Students who see rapid progress and play music they love are far more likely to continue lessons and develop a lasting relationship with their instrument.
